Dave Hamilton, Trumpet
A Puget Sound native, Dave has been a trumpet geek from an early age, starting on the instrument with the Highline School District in 5th grade. He participated in the school music programs throughout primary and secondary schools, and was twice named to the district Honor Band.
Since High School, Dave has performed as member and guest with several of the Seattle area community bands and orchestras, music theater companies, and as a soloist. In 1993, he had the good fortune to be a founding member of the Moonlight Brass Quintet and was principal trumpet for the group for more than a dozen years.
By virtue of having played for four+ decades, Dave has accumulated a wide variety of experiences. Some of the ensembles with which he has been heard include: University Presbyterian church ~ Resurrection Lutheran (Des Moines) ~ Highlands Community church ~ PugetBrass (British brass band) ~ Highline Community Band ~ Eastside Symphony ~ WSCO Wind symphony ~ The Hi-Liners ~ Peccadillo Players/Bellevue Opera (Gilbert & Sullivan) ~ Ballet Bellevue ~ Newport Covenant church arts ~ South Seattle Community College (vocal ensemble)
Dave has been with the Rainy Day Brass since 2011. In addition to the RDBQ, he currently performs as a regular member of: John Knox Presbyterian church ~ Orchestra of Flight (Principal Trumpet) ~ Hoot Owl Band ~ Twelfth Night Productions
Dave performs exclusively on instruments he can afford to buy!
When not interpreting lines and inkblots into sound, Dave does IT consulting for non-profit organizations, pursues a wide variety of eclectic interests and outdoor activities, and serves as squire for his cat.
Jon Bach, Trumpet
Jon grew up in a very musical family, and has been playing trumpet since grade school. Since many members of his family play brass instruments, they often play together for various churches, musicals, or just for fun! In fact, Jon's immediate family just happens to have the perfect instrumentation for their own brass quintet, and they play together as often as they can find time. Having played for countless musicals and church events, Jon feels right at home in an orchestra pit!
Jon and his wife, Heidi, have three young children and are enjoying that hectic but never boring phase of life!
Mariane Hermanson, French Horn
Mariane started playing the French Horn in 5th grade and continued playing through part of college. After a very long break she started playing again when her children started playing instruments. Mariane currently plays with the West Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Boeing Employees' Orchestra of Flight, and occasional pit orchestras. The formation of Rainy Day Brass has been a great opportunity to play even more and venture into small ensemble playing. She also plays first French Hosaphone with the group. When not playing the French Horn, Mariane is a board member of West Seattle Community Orchestras, weeds the garden, and likes to watch football.
Brian Bach, Trombone
Brian has been playing trombone for more than a half-century, and has been with Rainy Day Brass Quintet since 2010. You can also find him currently covering lead trombone for the West Seattle Big Band and in local dance band combos such as Conn Artists, Men in Black, and SpeakEasy Band. He also played many years in Highline Community Symphonic Band, a few stints with Eastside Symphony and Bellevue Philharmonic, and numerous church services and productions. He's logged many wonderful hours in orchestra pits with at least 15 musicals, and there's still several more he'd like to add to the list!
Brian enjoyed UW Husky Marching Band in college, and as a regular in the Alumni Band while 4 of his 5 children (and 3 of their future spouses) were in Husky Band. He loves playing quintet music with his family whenever possible, although now that each one is busy with their own families (some overseas), sadly the opportunities aren't nearly as frequent anymore. So he really appreciates being part of the RDBQ family with eldest son Jon!
Paul Hermanson, Tuba
Paul plays the tuba and is married to Mariane, his favorite French Horn player. His musical background includes the piano, guitar, bass guitar and euphonium (What's that?). He has arranged a few pieces for the quintet, but would much rather play than arrange music.
He also loves motorcycles. If you have any ideas of how to transport a tuba by motorcycle safely, please let him know.
